Bo Sutton and Brayden Green combined to strike out 15 Owls in 7 innings, leading Collierville to a 6-1 victory over MUS tonight at Drew Lawrence Field.
Sutton (2-0) kept the Owls off balance all night. He went 5 innings, allowing only 4 hits and 1 earned run. He walked 3 and struck out 10, throwing 65 of his 100 pitches for strikes. Green pitched the last 2, scattering 4 hits but striking out 5, to earn his first career save.
After spotting MUS an early 1-0 lead, the Dragons tied the score in the 3rd. CJ Fleming doubled deep to CF leading off the inning, and 1 batter later, Fulton Johnson drove him in with a hard ground ball single off the shortstop's glove.
The Dragons scored 3 more in the 4th. Parker Phillips led off with a single to CF. He then stole 2nd, and advanced to 3rd on Jacob Gill's sac bunt. MUS attempted to throw out Phillips at 3rd, but the ball got away from the 3rd baseman, and Phillips scored easily. Clay Murphy ran for Gill. Parker Cathey followed with a ground ball single to LF. After a line out and a fielder's choice, Austin Hall ripped a double to the wall in right center, scoring Murphy and Fleming.
The final 2 runs in the 6th scored on a bases loaded walk by Hall and a sacrifice fly by Fulton Johnson.
Parker Phillips and Parker Cathey each had 2 hits for Collierville. Austin Hall had 3 RBI, and Fulton Johnson added 2 RBI.
The Dragons (4-3) will host Tuscaloosa (AL) County tomorrow night at 6:30 pm at Drew Lawrence Field.
