The entire Dragon Baseball Program is excited to announce that former Kansas City Royals outfielder, Dee Brown, has officially been named to the Diamond Dragons Baseball Coaching Staff.
Regarded as the Royals 9th best prospect by Baseball America following his first professional season in 1996, Dee was named the Royals Co Minor League Player of the Year and played in the 1999 MLB Futures All-Star Game.
Dee Brown was born on March 27, 1978 in the Bronx. Brown moved to Newburgh and graduated from Marlboro Central High School in 1996. Dee earned 1st team All-America honors by Baseball America. In high school, Brown also played basketball and football. Dee ranked 13th among Baseball America's top 100 prospects entering the MLB draft. Brown was drafted in the first round (14th overall) by the Kansas City Royals in 1996, making the leap straight from high school to the majors. Brown made his major league debut on September 14, 1998 for the Kansas City
Royals. Dee played for the Royals in all outfield positions throughout the major league seasons of 1998-2004 before spending all of the 2005 and 2006 seasons in the minor leagues. On December 30, 2006, Brown signed a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training with the Arizona Diamondbacks and was assigned to the Tucson Sidewinders, Arizona's AAA affiliate. On May 30, 2007, Brown was traded to the Oakland Athletics for cash considerations. In December 2007, Brown signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and spent the entire 2008 season in AAA, becoming a free agent after the season. Brown had 14 home runs and 89 RBI, with a .233 batting average, in the 2008 season. He signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers for the 2009 season. He hit .295 with 19 homers and 80 RBI with the AAA Albuquerque Isotopes in 2009.
Dee is excited about joining our staff and is ready to devote his time to coaching our outfielders and hitters for the upcoming 2015 season.
