Jacob Caruso collected four hits in five at bats, as Collierville defeated DeSoto Central 16-8 on Friday, collecting two doubles and two singles.
The Dragons got on the board in the top of the first inning after a pair of Preston Sumner and Caruso singles, along with ground outs resulting in RBIs from Houston Jenkins and Parker Burleson.
Collierville added to their early lead in the top of the third inning when Jenkins grounded out, scoring one run, Burleson was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and Garrett Stephens tripled, scoring two runs.
Colton Cordell earned the win for the Dragons. The right-handed pitcher allowed six hits and five runs (three earned) over two and two-thirds innings, striking out none and walking one. Zander Steht took the loss for DeSoto Central. The RHP went two and two-thirds innings, allowing eight runs on nine hits, striking out one and walking none. Bradley Stubbs tossed one and one-third innings of shutout ball for the Dragons in relief. The reliever allowed one hit, striking out one and walking one.
Collierville tallied 20 hits in the game. Caruso and Sumner each collected four hits. Jenkins and Stephens each drove in three runs. Josh Hull, Hudson Snell, and Jack Bogenrief each collected multiple hits as well.
Collierville will travel to Arlington for their next game on Monday.
